Tournament History: From the founding of the GOVL through to the 2016 season, the Playoffs were a one day double elimination style Tournament hosted by the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption in Port Jefferson. With the growth of the league and a desire to have more games and opportunities to play. The Playoffs were expanded to single elimination games spaning 3-4 weeks. This however, left a void. The desire for a GOVL sponsored tournament was there and with the 2017 season The Annual Silver Cross Tournament was established. This Tournament normally takes place after finals and is a fun day where all the teams come together and have an opportunity to compete one last time without the stresses of the regular season or playoffs.This was the first tournament in the Direct Archdiocesan District to be held at a University’s Athletic Complex. However, now the tournament has returned to it’s home at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption in Port Jefferson. In 2026 The Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption in Port Jefferson officially took over the tournament.
