Tournament History: The Michael Baritis Memorial Tournament at St. Nicholas, Babylon is hosted in honor of Mr. Baritis. Mr. Baritis was a huge part of the St. Nicholas Community. The Tournament, hosted by the St. Nicholas GOYA, chose to name this tournament in honor of Mr. Baritis. Mr. Baritis served as the youth director for St. Nicholas, GOYA Advisor, Neokoro and Facilities Manager for over 40 years. Mr. Baritis would often drop whatever he was doing to help the youth programs with anything they needed. He had a huge part in the construction of their gym and additions to the church, as well as the recovery and re-building efforts after the church sustained damage from a fire in 2015. His dedication to his church and the youth always inspired and continues to inspire others. Mr. Baritis exemplified service to the church with dedication, love and faith. Fr. Dimitrios Kazakis uses the phrase “Be Like Mike” when talking about Mr. Baritis. Meaning, to follow in Mr. Baritis’ inspiring footsteps you must put faith and family first, in order to live a blessed and fulfilling life.
